Nov. 22 2023

Lisbon Heritage Hotels are pleased to announce that Hotel Britania Art Deco has been recognized with the prestigious “Historic Art of Hospitality Award 2023”, awarded by Historic Hotels of Europe.

Winner of the Gold Award, the historic Lisbon hotel was chosen by its guests and the Historic Hotels of Europe traveller community for its dedication to hospitality and excellence.

Founded 25 years ago and with members in 22 countries, Historic Hotels of Europe aims to highlight properties that embody the perfect combination of historical significance, excellent service and a unique culture. The collection, consisting of castles, palaces, villas and other units, not only offers breathtaking destinations and sustainable hospitality, but also preserves each story for future generations.

In its 9th edition, the Historic Hotels of Europe Awards invited their followers (tourists, culture lovers and history buffs) to vote in ten categories that aim to evoke the heritage behind Europe’s most remarkable historic hotels. The ceremony took place on 13 November at Sierakow Manor in Poland. This year, the ten categories included a new one – Art of Hospitality Award.

The Hotel Britania Art Deco opened its doors in 1944 in the historic center of Lisbon. Standing out for the avant-garde trait of the modernist architect who designed it, Cassiano Branco, it is the only hotel from the time that has survived intact to the present day. With 34 spacious rooms and large common areas, the unit stands out for the elegance and sobriety of its interiors, where the deco language coexists with national symbols, which allowed it to be classified as a property of historical interest for the city of Lisbon.

“For the Hotel Britania Art Deco to receive this distinction represents a great source of pride. Every day the team strives to provide a service of excellence, honoring the historical heritage of an emblematic building in the city of Lisbon. The appreciation of this work is, without a doubt, a great reward.”

says Diogo Laranjo, General Manager of Lisbon Heritage Hotels.
